Pauline Bonaparte was the sister of Napoleon Bonaparte, and she married Prince Camillo Borghese. This mask is from a full-size sculpture, Pauline Bonaparte as 'Venus Victrix,' that Camillo commissioned. In the sculpture, Pauline is lounging and wears only a sheet around her waist. The apple she holds recalls the myth of the Judgement of Paris, in which Venus was chosen as the most beautiful among three goddesses. We created the mask from the bust, Item 210.
